The Juicy Edit: Summer Beauty Is About to Get Delicious
Summer beauty has entered the chat, and apparently, she’s brought snacks.
I’m talking strawberry lips, peachy cheeks, watermelon everything, glossy skin and fragrances that make you smell suspiciously like something you’d order with a tiny umbrella in it.
Welcome to The Juicy Edit.
Every season seems to develop its own beauty personality, and this summer I’m firmly in my juicy era. I don’t want heavy. I don’t want complicated. And I definitely don’t want to spend forty minutes creating a flawless base only for the British weather to unexpectedly discover sunshine and melt it off before lunch.
I want fresh, fruity and fun.
The Juicier the Lip, the Better
Matte lipstick, I love you dearly, but you can sit this one out.
Summer is made for glossy lips.
I’m reaching for juicy pinks, sheer berries, watermelon reds and those almost-clear glosses that make your natural lip colour look approximately 300% better.
Lip oils are particularly good for this look because you get that gorgeous glassy finish without necessarily committing to a traditional sticky gloss.
And yes, I fully intend to reapply mine approximately seventeen times a day.
Blush Has Entered Its Fruit Bowl Era
There’s something about summer that makes me want considerably more blush.
Peach.
Strawberry pink.
Watermelon.
Cherry.
Basically, if you could put it in a fruit salad, I’m prepared to consider wearing it on my cheeks.
Cream and liquid formulas are especially lovely for creating that fresh, slightly dewy finish. Apply a little, blend it out and then—if you’re anything like me—decide you need just a tiny bit more.
Famous last words.
Skin That Looks Like Skin
I’m increasingly uninterested in completely covering my skin during summer.
Give me lighter bases, strategic concealer and products that let freckles and natural texture show through.
The goal isn’t perfection.
It’s that slightly suspicious:
“Have you been on holiday?”
look when actually you’ve been sitting in the garden with an iced drink.
I’ll take it.
Fruity Fragrance Is Having a Moment
This might be my favourite part of The Juicy Edit.
Summer is when I abandon all attempts at smelling mysterious and sophisticated and embrace smelling delicious.
Berries, peach, cherry, mango, coconut, citrus—anything bright and cheerful gets my attention.
And don’t forget body mists.
They’re lighter, easy to throw into a bag and perfect for those days when a full perfume feels a little too much.
Layering a fruity body product underneath can make the whole thing feel even more summery.
Hair Doesn’t Need to Behave
I’m also giving my hair a little more freedom this summer.
Less fighting every strand into submission.
More waves, ponytails, claw clips, braids and whatever my hair has decided we’re doing today.
Summer hair care for me is much more about keeping it looking healthy than making it perfectly styled.
Hydrating masks, leave-ins, oils and anything that helps the ends survive sunshine and heat styling are going firmly into rotation.
Don’t Forget the Body Stuff
The face gets an enormous amount of attention in beauty content while the rest of us apparently has to fend for itself.
Not this summer.
Body scrubs, lotions, oils, gradual tan, foot care, pretty shower products—the lot.
There’s something wonderfully indulgent about getting out of the shower smelling like peaches and then layering another fruity lotion on top.
Necessary?
Probably not.
Delightful?
Absolutely.
And Then There Are the Nails
Summer nails are where I stop pretending I’m sensible.
Give me pink.
Give me coral.
Give me cherries.
Give me tiny strawberries.
Give me a manicure that would look completely ridiculous in February.
That’s the point.
The Juicy Edit Has Officially Begun
So that’s the beauty mood around here for June.
Gloss over matte.
Fresh over flawless.
Colour over sensible.
Fun over perfection.
Over the next few weeks I’m going through the products, trends and little beauty rituals that are making summer feel particularly delicious.
There’ll be hair.
There’ll be skincare.
There’ll definitely be makeup.
And judging by the current state of my beauty cupboard, there are going to be quite a few products getting put through their paces too.
Summer beauty doesn’t need to be serious.
Sometimes it can just be really, really fun.
