The Juicy Blush Edit: Why Summer Cheeks Deserve More Colour
I have a summer beauty confession.
I keep adding more blush.
I apply what appears to be a perfectly reasonable amount, look in the mirror, decide I need just a touch more and suddenly I’m halfway to becoming a human peach.
And you know what?
I’m embracing it.
Welcome back to The Juicy Edit, where today we’re talking about one of my favourite ways to make a face look instantly brighter:
blush.
Summer Is Blush Season
There are beauty products I use because they’re practical.
Blush isn’t one of them.
Blush is pure joy.
A little colour on the cheeks can completely change how the rest of your makeup looks. Skin suddenly looks fresher. Minimal makeup looks more deliberate. Even those I slept terribly but nobody needs to know that mornings become slightly easier to disguise.
And summer gives us permission to have a bit more fun with it.
I’m thinking:
π peach
π cherry
π watermelon pink
πΊ coral
π bright rosy pink
Basically, subtlety has gone on holiday.
Cream Blush Makes Everything Look Juicier
I love powder blush, but there’s something about cream formulas in summer.
They melt into the skin rather than sitting visibly on top of it, which makes them perfect for the fresh, glowy look I’m chasing with The Juicy Edit.
I tend to start with a tiny amount and build.
This is important.
Because cream blush has an extraordinary ability to look completely innocent in the packaging and then turn you into a Victorian child who’s just returned from running through a field.
Blend first.
Add more later.
Learn from my mistakes.
Liquid Blush Requires Respect π
Then we have liquid blush.
Beautiful.
Pigmented.
Occasionally terrifying.
One dot can be plenty with some formulas, which means this is not the moment to enthusiastically paint three stripes across each cheek unless you already know what you’re dealing with.
But once you’ve found the right amount?
Gorgeous.
Liquid blush can create that almost translucent wash of colour where you can still see the skin underneath.
That’s exactly what I want for summer.
Peach Is My Easy Option π
Peach blush is one of those products that quietly works incredibly hard.
It brings warmth to the face without necessarily screaming I AM WEARING BLUSH, and it pairs beautifully with bronzer, golden eyeshadow and glossy peach lips.
For an easy summer face, I’d happily do:
light base
- bronzer
- peach blush
- mascara
- glossy lip.
Five minutes and I’m out the door.
Well…
Five minutes plus however long I spend looking for the mascara I literally just had in my hand.
Pink Makes Everything Happier
Pink blush is where I become considerably less restrained.
Soft baby pink can look beautiful and delicate.
A brighter watermelon pink immediately wakes up the complexion.
And a deeper rosy shade can give you that gorgeous just-outside flush without requiring any actual outdoor activity.
Convenient.
I particularly like carrying a little of the colour across the bridge of the nose.
Not enough to look sunburnt.
Just enough to create that I’ve spent a lovely afternoon somewhere sunny illusion.
Even if the reality involved sitting indoors with a laptop.
Cherry Blush Is the Bold One π
Cherry-toned blush deserves more attention.
It’s richer than pink and can look intimidating in the pan, but applied lightly it creates an incredibly natural-looking flush.
The secret is restraint.
Start small.
Blend.
Then decide whether you want more.
Because taking blush off is considerably more annoying than putting another dot on.
Blush Doesn’t Have to Stay on Your Cheeks
One of my favourite tricks when I’m trying to make makeup look cohesive is using similar tones elsewhere on the face.
A peach cheek with a peachy lip.
A rosy blush with a sheer rose gloss.
Sometimes I’ll even sweep a little powder blush through the crease of the eye.
Everything suddenly looks like it belongs together without requiring a complicated colour theory lesson before breakfast.
Where Should Blush Actually Go?
This is one of those beauty questions with approximately seventeen different answers depending on which TikTok you watched this morning.
Higher placement can give the face a lifted appearance.
Blush concentrated on the apples creates something softer and sweeter.
Across the cheeks and nose gives that summery flushed effect.
My rule?
Put it where you like how it looks on your face.
Trends are fun.
Your own face isn’t a trend.
Experiment until you find the placement that makes you happy.
Powder Still Has a Place
Despite my current cream obsession, I’m absolutely not throwing out my powder blushes.
In fact, layering a small amount of powder over cream can be brilliant when I want the colour to last.
Cream gives me the juicy finish.
Powder helps lock things down.
And suddenly the blush I applied in the morning still exists by dinner.
Always helpful.
Shop Your Makeup Bag First
Before buying the latest viral blush, have a look at what you’ve already got.
I did this recently and discovered shades I’d almost completely forgotten about.
And here’s the ridiculous part:
I still liked them.
They hadn’t suddenly become less beautiful because something newer appeared on my screen.
Beauty moves quickly.
Our makeup bags don’t have to.
So I’m making a conscious effort this summer to rediscover colours I already own alongside anything genuinely new that catches my eye.
Apparently my beauty cupboard has been hiding some very good stuff from me.
Or perhaps I put it there and forgot about it.
Either explanation seems plausible.
The Juicy Blush Edit
My summer blush philosophy is therefore extremely sophisticated:
Put some on.
Blend it.
Probably put a little more on.
π
Peach, pink, cherry or coral β I want cheeks that look fresh, happy and full of life.
Because The Juicy Edit isn’t about creating a perfect face.
It’s about having fun with beauty again.
And if I accidentally apply slightly too much blush along the way?
I’ll call it editorial.
Love,
Hayls x
